NIMT Presents at FLOMEKO 2026 in Japan

Dr. Theerarak Chinarak from NIMT participated in FLOMEKO 2026: The 20th International Flow Measurement Conference, held in Nara, Japan, from 17-20 May 2026. The conference brought together leading experts, researchers, and national metrology institutes from around the world to exchange knowledge and present recent developments in flow measurement technology.

Dr. Theerarak delivered an oral presentation entitled “Inter-comparison Infusion Device Analyzers in DEC APMP.” The presentation highlighted the results of an inter-laboratory comparison conducted in the measurement ranges of liquid flow rates between 20–200 mL/h and pressure measurements between 0–1200 mmHg using infusion device analyzers under the support of the MEDEA 3.0 project.

The research contributes significantly to the development of reliable measurement standards for medical devices and supports laboratory accreditation activities in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025. Participating laboratories can utilize the comparison results as supporting evidence for their accreditation processes. In addition, the methodology developed through this activity can be further adapted for other types of medical measuring instruments in future international comparison programs.

During the conference, participants also attended technical sessions covering a wide range of topics such as microflow measurement, gas flow, hydrogen flow, ultrasonic flowmeters, multiphase flow, Coriolis flowmeters, alternative fuel flow, and new developments in flow measurement technology. These sessions provided valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange and international networking among metrology experts worldwide.

FLOMEKO 2026 welcomed approximately 300 participants from 31 countries and featured 192 technical papers, including 165 oral presentations and 27 poster presentations. The conference continues to serve as one of the leading international platforms for advancing research and collaboration in flow metrology.

Participation in FLOMEKO provides valuable opportunities for NIMT to showcase its research capabilities at the international level and strengthen collaboration with leading national metrology institutes worldwide. The conference also enables NIMT to exchange technical knowledge, stay updated on emerging trends in flow measurement technology, and apply new knowledge to improve Thailand’s national measurement standards, calibration services, and research capabilities.

 

 

NIMT Undergoes ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 17034 Quality System Assessment

NIMT welcomed a team of international and domestic assessors for the assessment of its quality management system under ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 17034 standards. The assessment was conducted during 12–15 May 2026 at NIMT.

The opening session was attended by Pol. Lt. Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of NIMT; Mr. Anusorn Tonmueanwai, Deputy Director; Mr. Charun Yafa, Assistant Director; and Miss Charuayrat Yaokulbodee, Quality Manager, together with NIMT executives, metrologists, and members of the quality management team of NIMT.

The international technical assessment team comprised experts from leading national metrology institutes and organizations, including Dr. Michael Wouters from the National Measurement Institute Australia (NMIA); Dr. Takehiko Oe from the National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ); Dr. Mun-Seog Kim and Dr. Sung Jung Joo from the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS); Dr. Jiafu Wang and Dr. Lianhua Dong from the National Institute of Metrology (NIM), China; and Dr. Richard Shin from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), Singapore.

During the assessment, Dr. Michael Wouters (NMIA) assessed NIMT’s Time and Frequency Laboratory and Automobile Speed Laboratory; Dr. Takehiko Oe (NMIJ) assessed the Electrical Current Laboratory; Dr. Mun-Seog Kim (KRISS) assessed the Multi-function Measuring Instrument Laboratory; Dr. Sung Jung Joo (KRISS) assessed the Magnetics Laboratory; Dr. Jiafu Wang (NIM, China) assessed the High Voltage Laboratory; Dr. Lianhua Dong (NIM, China) assessed the Bio Analysis Group; and Dr. Richard Shin (HSA) assessed the Inorganic Analysis Laboratory.

The local quality system assessment team comprised Ms. Sirorat Thonhamkaew from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) and Ms. Dusadee Munkwamdee from the Department of Science Service (DSS).

The assessment covered accreditation maintenance and scope expansion for several NIMT laboratories, including the Electrical Metrology Department and Chemical and Biological Metrology Department.

NIMT sincerely expressed its appreciation to all international and local experts for their valuable contributions, professional insights, and continued support in strengthening Thailand’s quality infrastructure and technical capabilities in metrology.

The assessment reflects NIMT’s continued commitment to maintaining internationally recognized standards of competence, quality, and reliability in metrology services, while strengthening its capabilities to support industrial development, innovation, and international confidence in Thailand’s measurement infrastructure.

NIMT Participates in DCC Hands-On Training Workshop in Indonesia

Ms. Sunantiya Parana, from NIMT, participated in Phase II of the International Workshop on Digital Transformation with Digital Calibration Certificates (DCC) Hands-On Training, held during 6–7 May 2026 in Indonesia.

The workshop aimed to further strengthen participants’ knowledge and practical implementation of Digital Calibration Certificates (DCC) through hands-on activities and technical discussions. The program provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and enhance their understanding of digital transformation in metrology, particularly in the development and application of DCC systems to support modern calibration services and international interoperability.

During the workshop, participants engaged in practical exercises and collaborative discussions on DCC implementation, data structure, and digitalization approaches in calibration services. The training also encouraged knowledge sharing among metrology experts and promoted international cooperation in advancing digital transformation within the metrology community.

The participation of NIMT in this workshop reflects its continued commitment to enhancing technical capabilities and supporting the advancement of digital metrology systems in line with international developments.

NIMT Participates in the 14th Meeting of the ASEAN Metrology Network in Chemical and Biology (AMNCB)

Dr. Nattikarn Ornthai, from NIMT, participated in the 14th Meeting of the ASEAN Metrology Network in Chemical and Biology (AMNCB), held during 5–6 May 2026 in Malaysia.

The meeting was hosted by the Department of Chemistry Malaysia (KIMIA) and brought together representatives from ASEAN member institutes to discuss ongoing and future collaborations in chemical and biological metrology. Key discussions included progress updates on joint proficiency testing (PT) programmes, supplementary comparison studies on toxic elements in health supplements, and capability-building activities related to measurement uncertainty and analytical techniques.

The meeting also provided a platform for AMNCB members to exchange technical knowledge, strengthen regional cooperation, and contribute to the development of strategic plans aimed at enhancing measurement capabilities and laboratory competencies across the ASEAN region.

In summary, Dr. Nattikarn’s participation in the meeting reinforced NIMT’s commitment to regional collaboration in chemical and biological metrology, while supporting the advancement of measurement standards, technical expertise, and quality infrastructure within the ASEAN community.

NIMT Enhances Capability in Organic Purity Analysis through qNMR at NMIJ

Dr. Sornkrit Marbumrung and Ms. Ponhatai Kankaew from NIMT attended a technical training program on the evaluation of organic purity using quantitative Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (qNMR) techniques at the National Metrology Institute of Japan. The training focused on quantitative analysis of organic compounds in matrices using advanced qNMR methods, including the Relative Molar Sensitivity (RMS) technique.

Dr. Sornkrit Marbumrung participated in the program during 20–24 April 2026, while Ms. Ponhatai Kankaew attended during 20 April–1 May 2026.

Participation in this training program was highly important and essential for NIMT. The knowledge and expertise gained from the training will strengthen NIMT capability in establishing new measurement standards and producing certified reference materials (CRMs) for pure substances, including active compounds in herbal products and controlled substances such as narcotics. This capability will help reduce Thailand’s dependence on expensive imported reference standards and reference materials.

Furthermore, the training provided in-depth knowledge on the application of qNMR techniques for complex samples, as well as quantitative analysis of pure compounds and active herbal ingredients. The acquired expertise will support Thailand’s participation in Interlaboratory Comparisons (ILC) and Key Comparisons, contributing to the verification of the accuracy and equivalence of measurement results from Thai laboratories using qNMR techniques under the framework of the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement.

ASEAN Expert Group on Metrology (EGM) Conducts Bi-Monthly Training Session on CMM Verification

The ASEAN Expert Group on Metrology (EGM) successfully conducted its Bi-Monthly Training Session on 29 April 2026, held online as a full-day session. The training brought together participants from across ASEAN to strengthen technical knowledge and enhance regional collaboration in dimensional metrology.

The session was officially opened by Mr. Kong Pagnarith of the National Metrology Center (NMC), Cambodia, as EGM Vice Chair. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building and knowledge sharing among ASEAN National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) to ensure measurement reliability and international recognition.

The training was delivered by Dr. Wiroj Sudatham, Senior Metrologist from NIMT.  His lecture focused on “Acceptance and Reverification Tests for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM),” providing both fundamental concepts and practical insights relevant to laboratory applications.

Key topics covered during the training included:

– Introduction to Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)

– CMM error components and sources of uncertainty

– Measurement strategies for CMM applications

– Differences between CMM calibration and verification

– Evaluation of CMM test uncertainty

– Decision rules for determining conformity or nonconformity with specifications

The session provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of CMM performance evaluation, which is essential for ensuring measurement accuracy and compliance with international standards. It also offered a valuable platform for discussion and exchange of experiences among experts in the region.

This activity reflects EGM’s ongoing commitment to enhancing technical competence and supporting the harmonization of metrology practices across ASEAN.

NIMT Attends Training Workshop on PV Metrology and Testing in China

Mr. Pollawat Jamparuang and Mr. Puriwat Atigool from the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT) participated in the Training Workshop on PV Metrology and Testing, hosted by the National Institute of Metrology of China (NIM), in the People’s Republic of China during 15–29 April 2026. The workshop focused on photovoltaic (PV) metrology and testing techniques, with the objective of enhancing technical competencies in solar cell measurements.

The participation aimed to strengthen NIMT’s technical capabilities and expertise in photovoltaic metrology and testing, which play an important role in supporting the development, reliability, and quality assurance of solar energy technologies. The training also provided valuable opportunities for hands-on experience with advanced measurement techniques and exposure to international best practices in renewable energy applications.

In summary, the participation of NIMT representatives in this international workshop reflects the institute’s commitment to strengthening technical expertise and advancing measurement capabilities in photovoltaic metrology and testing. The knowledge and experience gained from the training will contribute to supporting research, innovation, and quality infrastructure development in renewable energy technologies in Thailand.

NIMT Participates in the Asian Conference on Trapped Ions 2026 (ACTI 2026)

Dr. Piyaphat Phoonthong, Senior Metrologist from NIMT, participated in the Asian Conference on Trapped Ions 2026, where he presented his research work. The conference was held at the National University of Singapore from 20 to 22 April 2026 in Singapore.

The ACTI 2026 conference, organized by the Centre for Quantum Technologies, brought together researchers and experts in the field of trapped ions and quantum technologies across Asia and beyond.

During the event, Dr. Piyaphat delivered his presentation and engaged in scientific discussions with international peers, fostering potential research collaborations and knowledge exchange in advanced metrology and quantum science.

His participation in this conference reflects NIMT’s continued commitment to strengthening international collaboration and contributing to cutting-edge research in emerging fields relevant to precision measurement and quantum technologies.

NIMT participates in the 2nd Workshop on the Development of APMP DEC Strategic Planning 2027–2029

Ms. Charuayrat Yaokulbodee, Head of the Thermometry and Optical Metrology Department and Quality Manager, together with Ms. Thanakporn Nontachart, from NIMT, participated in the 2nd Workshop on the Development of Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) DEC Strategic Planning 2027–2029.

The workshop was held from 2–3 April 2026 in Indonesia and brought together representatives from member economies to collaboratively develop the strategic direction of the APMP Developing Economies’ Committee (DEC) for the period 2027–2029.

The main objectives of the workshop were to review the current strategic framework, identify key priorities and challenges faced by developing economies, and formulate actionable plans to strengthen capacity building, technical cooperation, and sustainable development in metrology across the Asia-Pacific region.

During the workshop, participants engaged in discussions and group activities focusing on enhancing regional collaboration, improving knowledge transfer, and aligning DEC initiatives with global trends and emerging needs in metrology. The outcomes of this workshop will contribute to shaping a robust and forward-looking strategic plan to support developing economies within APMP.
