NIMT Hosts “NIMT Open House 2026” Under the Theme “Thai Metrology – On Par with – World Metrology”

Supporting Thailand’s Ambition to Become a Global Hub for Photonic Chips and Advanced Packaging

NIMT is advancing Thailand’s innovation-driven economy through the launch of “NIMT Open House 2026”, held under the theme “Thai Metrology – On Par with – World Metrology.” The event takes place on 29–30 June 2026 at the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), Pathumthani, in celebration of NIMT’s 28th anniversary.

The event showcases NIMT’s cutting-edge laboratories and advanced measurement innovations while bringing together stakeholders from all sectors to drive future industries forward. More than 1,300 participants have registered to attend, reflecting strong public interest in science, technology, and innovation.

Mr. Danuphorn Punnakanta, Vice Minister for Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and Chairman of the opening ceremony, emphasized that metrology and accurate measurement standards are the “backbone and heart” of Thailand’s science, technology, and innovation system.

He noted that NIMT’s commitment to developing national measurement standards over the past 28 years has strengthened Thailand’s quality infrastructure and earned international recognition. Today, metrology extends far beyond laboratory work and serves as a critical mechanism in supporting the government’s economic agenda.

In mid-June, Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), undertook an official mission to the Netherlands and Belgium to seek cooperation in science and technology, advancing Thailand toward becoming a hub for photonic chips and advanced packaging while attracting Horizon Europe funding to support and create opportunities for Thai people and Thai research to shine on the global stage in tangible ways.

“As the government pursues a policy of urgently supporting the semiconductor industry as one of the cornerstones of innovation-driven economic development, metrology plays a vital role in advancing this agenda,” said Mr. Danuphorn.

He further highlighted the importance of promoting research and development (R&D) for high-precision manufacturing technologies, materials, and processes; developing a highly skilled workforce ready for semiconductor manufacturing; and supporting specialized standards and metrology for high-precision measurement, such as optical atomic clocks, quantum technology, and quantum electrical systems, to enable the calibration of the advanced instruments required by the semiconductor industry.

Four Key Themes: Making Measurement Innovation Tangible for the Economy and Quality of Life

This year’s event transforms complex scientific concepts into engaging and accessible experiences through exhibitions and activities organized under four main themes that directly connect with everyday life and the economy.

1. Absolute Precision
Experience quantum technologies and optical atomic clocks, the foundation behind high-tech industries such as semiconductors and AI hardware systems.
2. Perfect Balance
Discover measurement standards that ensure fairness and confidence for consumers, including electric vehicle (EV) charger inspections, smart grid technologies, smart farming systems, and demonstrations of vehicle speed measurement instrument calibration.
3. Future Force
Explore the role of metrology in strengthening national infrastructure, including energy systems, Thailand’s rail transportation network, and earthquake early warning systems.
4. Vital Pulse
Learn about measurement innovations in health and environmental applications, including food safety testing, medical equipment calibration, and technologies that improve safety and quality of life for Thai citizens.

NIMT Open House 2026 has received an overwhelmingly positive response, attracting more than 1,300 registered participants, including school and university students, government agencies and partner organizations, industry representatives, senior executives, and members of the general public.

The strong turnout reflects growing interest among young people in pursuing education and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

In addition to exhibitions and Interactive Science Shows, NIMT has established a consultation clinic for entrepreneurs aimed at helping businesses reduce costs and enhance their competitiveness in global markets.

The Institute is also providing free basic medical equipment calibration services, contributing to improved patient safety and healthcare quality.

The National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) invites entrepreneurs, educational institutions, youth, and the general public to explore, ask questions, conduct hands-on experiments, and engage with leading researchers at NIMT Open House 2026.

The event is being held until 30 June 2026 at the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand), Pathumthani.

Join us in shaping the future of Thai technology and advancing together toward world-class metrology excellence.
