NIMT Welcomes Prof. Dr. Ravi Fernandes from PTB, Germany, for the APMP International Workshop on Energy Metrology

Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of NIMT, warmly welcomed Prof. Dr. Ravi Fernandes, Head of the Physical Chemistry Department at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany, during his visit to Thailand from 30 June to 2 July 2026 to participate in NIMT’s energy metrology activities and the APMP International Workshop: “Trusted Measurements for a Sustainable Energy Future.”

On 30 June 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of NIMT, warmly welcomed Prof. Fernandes at NIMT. During his visit, Prof. Fernandes held technical discussions with NIMT Metrologists from Mechanical Metrology Department and Chemical Metrology and Biometry Department to exchange knowledge and explore future collaboration in energy metrology. He also visited NIMT’s energy-related laboratories as part of the NIMT Energy Open House, gaining insights into Thailand’s measurement capabilities.

As part of the programme, Prof. Fernandes also participated in the APMP Energy Efficiency Focus Group (EEFG) Meeting, where researchers from National Metrology Institutes across the Asia-Pacific region exchanged experiences and discussed future cooperation to strengthen measurement capabilities for sustainable energy applications.

The highlight of the visit was the APMP International Workshop: “Trusted Measurements for a Sustainable Energy Future,” held on 2 July 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) during Asia Sustainable Energy Week 2026. The workshop brought together leading experts from academia, industry, government agencies, and National Metrology Institutes to share knowledge and best practices on measurement science supporting the global energy transition.

As a distinguished guest speaker, Prof. Fernandes shared the perspective on energy metrology and highlighted the importance of reliable and internationally traceable measurements in supporting emerging energy technologies. His presentation provided valuable insights into the role of metrology in enabling innovation, improving energy efficiency, and strengthening confidence in sustainable energy systems.

Through the APMP International Workshop and the NIMT Open House, NIMT reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Thailand’s national measurement infrastructure for sustainable energy. The events also served as a platform to promote collaboration among government agencies, industry, academia, and international partners, supporting the integration of measurement infrastructure for renewable energy technologies, including solar energy and energy efficiency, in line with the country’s sustainable development goals.

NIMT sincerely expresses its appreciation to Prof. Dr. Ravi Fernandes for his valuable contributions, inspiring presentations, and fruitful technical discussions throughout his visit. His expertise and active engagement greatly enriched the workshop and strengthened technical cooperation between Thailand and Europe.

NIMT also extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) for its continued support and longstanding collaboration with NIMT. PTB has been an invaluable partner in advancing metrology research, capacity building, and international cooperation. NIMT looks forward to further strengthening this partnership to support innovation and the development of reliable measurement infrastructure for a sustainable energy future.
