NIMT Representative Serves as a Keynote Speaker in ASEAN Quantum Summit 2025

Dr. Piyaphat Phoonthong, Senior Professional Metrologist of the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), was invited to served as a keynote speaker for the ASEAN Quantum Summit 2025, jointly organized by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), and Malaysia Quantum Information Initiative (MyQI), on 10 – 12 December 2025 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The ASEAN Quantum Summit 2025 was a regional platform that brings together ASEAN government representatives, researchers, and industry players to explore approaches and strategies for building a more collaborative and integrated ASEAN quantum ecosystem. The event was held in conjunction with the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025 (IYQ 2025) and featured various sessions including technical discussion, exhibitions, and quantum technology demonstrations.

Dr. Piyaphat’s talk reflected the principles of quantum technologies elevating time and frequency measurement from high precision to unprecedented accuracy by harnessing the quantum properties of atoms. This breakthrough enables transformative innovations across industries that depend on ultra-precise time synchronization.

 

NIMT Contributes to the Global Celebration of BIPM150

Dr. Sivinee Sawatdiaree, representing NIMT, delivered a short national contribution during a special online event marking the conclusion of the 150th anniversary of the Metre Convention (BIPM150), organized by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).

The event, held on 10 December 2025, brought together the global metrology community to reflect on a landmark year celebrating the legacy of the Metre Convention—which laid the foundation for international cooperation in measurement science and established the BIPM as one of the world’s earliest international organizations.

On behalf of NIMT, Dr. Sivinee shared Thailand’s BIPM150-related activities and national engagement, highlighting NIMT’s contributions to strengthening measurement standards, international traceability, and collaboration within the global metrology system.

NIMT Representative Attends the Asian Productivity Organization’s (APO) International Conference on Green Productivity 2.0

Dr. Jariya Buajarern, Metrology Expert from the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT) attended the Asian Productivity Organization’s (APO) International Conference on Green Productivity 2.0, jointly organized by the LUMS Energy Institute (LEI), National Productivity Organization Pakistan (NPO), and the Federal Ministry of Industries & Production on 28-29 November 2025 at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan.

The event gathered government officials, industry leaders, academics, experts, and development practitioners from 21 APO member economies—including Italy, Japan, Thailand, China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Türkiye, Vietnam, Pakistan, and etc.—to showcase advanced research and practical innovations shaping the future of green productivity across the region. The program featured plenary sessions, keynote presentations, and sector-focused discussions covering themes such as industrial growth, energy, oil and gas sector, and the circular economy. The conference was recognized as one of Pakistan’s most notable international forums on sustainable industrial transformation.

Dr. Jariya’s participation underscored NIMT’s strong commitment to advancing sustainable industrial development, strengthened multisector collaboration among APO member countries, and reinforced global competitiveness in the industrial economy.

 

 

NIMT Director Participates as Leader of the Thai Delegation at the 41st APMP General Assembly and Related Activities in Incheon, Republic of Korea

Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), participated as the leader of the Thai delegation at the 41st Asia-Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) General Assembly and Related Activities, from 26 to 28 November 2025 in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The annual event convened leaders and experts from National Metrology Institutes (NMIs), regional metrology organizations, and global partners to discuss key developments and future directions in the international measurement system.

On 26 November 2025, Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai attended the APMP Symposium, organized under the theme “The Future of Metrology and the Challenges for NMIs: Innovation and Sustainability.” The symposium gathered distinguished speakers from the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), APMP, and NMIs worldwide to explore the evolving landscape of metrology, including the redefinition of the International System of Units (SI), the emergence of quantum technologies, and the growing need for sustainability-focused measurement solutions. The discussions provided valuable perspectives to support NIMT’s strategic development and alignment with global metrology trends.

Later on the same day, the NIMT Director took part in the 16th APMP NMI Directors’ Workshop, focused on “Semiconductor Metrology – Shaping Modern Technology and Supporting APMP’s Collaborative Roadmap.” The workshop emphasized the critical importance of measurement science in semiconductor development, covering topics such as advanced technology nodes, 3D packaging, international traceability, and regional capacity building. Participants also exchanged views on the establishment of the APMP Semiconductor Metrology Focus Group, reflecting strong regional interest in strengthening this strategically important field.

From 27 to 28 November 2025, Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai participated in the 41st APMP General Assembly, where member economies reviewed APMP’s progress, discussed strategic and financial matters, and approved work programmes for the upcoming year.

A significant highlight of Thailand’s participation was NIMT’s presentation of its proposal to host the APMP Mid-Year Meetings 2028. The proposal demonstrates Thailand’s readiness to support APMP’s collaborative activities and its commitment to strengthening regional metrology cooperation. Hosting the meetings would provide an opportunity for Thailand to showcase NIMT’s capabilities, expand technical cooperation, and welcome experts from across the Asia–Pacific region.

The participation of Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune underscores NIMT’s continued commitment to advancing Thailand’s measurement infrastructure and contributing to regional and global metrology efforts. Insights gained from the symposium, workshop, and General Assembly will support NIMT’s mission to enhance national capabilities, promote innovation, and foster international collaboration in key emerging areas such as semiconductor metrology, quantum technologies, and sustainable development.

NIMT Researcher Presents at ASPEN 2025

Mr. Siriwat Kitsompong, the researcher from the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), presented his research at the 11th International Conference of the Asian Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (ASPEN 2025), held in Chinese Taipei from 25–28 November 2025.

At the conference, Mr. Siriwat delivered a technical presentation entitled “Development of a Jig and Fixture for Measuring Squareness Error and Estimating Measurement Uncertainty.” The study introduces the design of a jig and fixture for evaluating straightness and squareness errors in two-dimensional measuring systems in accordance with ISO 230-1, supporting both contact and non-contact measurement methods. The work also addresses the estimation of measurement uncertainty, contributing to improved accuracy and reliability in dimensional metrology applications.

ASPEN 2025, organized by the Asian Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology, serves as a key international platform for researchers and industry experts across Asia to exchange knowledge and showcase advancements in precision engineering and nanotechnology.

Mr. Siriwat’s contribution reflects the institute’s ongoing commitment to advancing metrology research and strengthening Thailand’s presence in the global scientific community.

 

NIMT Representative Receives APMP Technical Activity Award at the 41st APMP General Assembly in Incheon, Republic of Korea

Miss Rugkanawan Wongpithayadisai from NIMT was awarded the prestigious APMP Technical Activity Award during the 41st APMP General Assembly and Related Activities on 26 November 2025 at Songdo Convensia, Incheon, Republic of Korea.

This award is presented to individuals who have completed their terms in leadership roles within APMP and have made significant contributions to the development of metrology in the Asia–Pacific region. Miss Rugkanawan received this recognition for her exceptional service as Chair of the APMP Technical Committee for Quality Systems (TCQS).

In her role as TCQS Chair, Miss Rugkanawan demonstrated strong leadership in advancing quality system implementation across APMP member economies.

NIMT extends its warmest congratulations to Miss Rugkanawan Wongpithayadisai on this well-deserved honor. Her accomplishment reflects not only her expertise and commitment but also NIMT’s continued role in supporting regional metrology advancement and international cooperation.

NIMT and KRISS Sign MoU to Strengthen Regional Metrology Cooperation

On 26 November 2025, the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT) and the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) reached another important milestone in their long-standing partnership by signing a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The signing ceremony took place during the 41st APMP General Assembly and Related Activities in Incheon, Republic of Korea, with Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of NIMT, and Dr. Ho Seong Lee, President of KRISS, representing the two institutions.

NIMT and KRISS have enjoyed close cooperation since 1997, with successive renewals demonstrating the enduring trust, strong friendship, and shared commitment to advancing measurement science. This year also holds special significance as KRISS celebrates its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of leadership and contributions to global metrology

At the conclusion of the ceremony, both institutions reaffirmed their dedication to continued collaboration, moving forward “with trust, vision, and friendship — as true partners in precision and progress.”

NIMT Hosts the Final Workshop of the CABUREK M4DT-IC Project, Advancing Global Digital Metrology

NIMT welcomed metrology experts from more than 35 countries to the 5th and final workshop of the CABUREK M4DT-IC: Metrology for Digital Transformation in International Cooperation project, supported by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). The event was held from 16–21 November 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The CABUREK M4DT-IC project aims to strengthen digital metrology capabilities for national metrology institutes and standards organizations worldwide, while fostering international cooperation to support the global transition toward digital metrology systems.

Hosting the final workshop in Thailand marks an important milestone, reaffirming NIMT’s role in advancing international digital metrology. The event served as a platform for sharing knowledge, technologies, and best practices among metrology experts from different regions around the world.

Special Event on 18 November 2025 — Stakeholder Engagement & Awareness Raising

On 18 November 2025, NIMT organized a special seminar titled “Metrology for Digital Transformation in National and International Collaboration” at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok. The seminar was widely attended by representatives from international metrology institutes and partner organizations across multiple regions.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand), who delivered welcoming remarks and highlighted the crucial role of metrology in supporting digital transformation: “Metrology underpins confidence in every quality system. Digital transformation is therefore a mission that all countries must work together on, to ensure that standard-based data is reliable, interoperable, and ready to support the new digital economy.”

Key Objectives of the Event

  1. Raising awareness of the importance of digital transformation in metrology systems : The event emphasized the roles of metrology in the digital era and the need for interoperable quality infrastructure built upon standardized data.
  2. Knowledge exchange among global experts : Representatives from PTB, OIML, IMEKO, and various national metrology institutes shared
  3. Strengthening international cooperation to support Thailand’s sustainable Digital Quality Infrastructure (DQI) : The afternoon program featured technical talks and panel discussions involving regulatory, accreditation, and metrology bodies, focusing on guiding Thailand’s transition toward a holistic digital quality infrastructure.

Hosting the final CABUREK M4DT-IC workshop in Thailand demonstrates NIMT’s strong readiness to serve as a regional hub for digital metrology collaboration and reinforces the confidence that:

  • Thailand can develop digital metrology systems aligned with international standards.
  • NIMT plays a vital role in driving the digital transformation of the national Quality Infrastructure (QI).
  • Knowledge exchange with international institutes strengthens the reliability and quality of Thailand’s metrology system.

NIMT Welcomes Delegation from Japan Measuring Instruments Federation (JMIF)

Mr. Anusorn Tonmueanwai, Deputy Director of NIMT, together with department head and staffs, welcomed Mr. Jun Tanimoto, Vice President of the Japan Measuring Instruments Federation (JMIF), along with delegation from Japanese companies in the measuring-instrument sector. The event was held on 17 November 2025, at Phadung Matra Building, NIMT, Pathumthani.

The visit aimed to facilitate fruitful discussion and a guided tour of NIMT’s laboratories such as electricity, length, mass, temperature and robotics, serving as a platform for the exchange of knowledge, technical expertise, and practical experience in the field of metrology. This engagement not only reinforced the strong networks within the measuring-instrument sector but also further strengthened the long-standing cooperation between Thailand and Japan in this important area.

On this occasion, JMIF introduced the 2nd International Conference of Weighing (ICW2026), which will be held from 8-10 June, 2026 at Kitakyushu International Conference Center, Japan. With the theme “Innovative Weighing Solutions for a Sustainable World”, the program will include three parallel sessions—legal metrology, scientific metrology, and applied metrology—highlighting presentations on the advanced developments in the industry. NIMT Welcomes Delegation from PTB and PVSEC

Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), extended a warm welcome to representatives from the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), together with participants from the Photovoltaic Science and Engineering Conference (PVSEC), including delegates from India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The visit served as a platform for technical discussions and a guided tour of NIMT’s laboratories, providing an opportunity for participants to gain insight into metrological processes related to solar energy technologies. The engagement also fostered the exchange of expertise and technical knowledge that can be leveraged to advance renewable energy development in their respective countries. The event was held on 14 November 2025, at Phadung Matra Building, NIMT, Pathumthani.

During the visit, the Director highlighted the pivotal role of metrology in strengthening confidence in measurement results across the clean energy sector. He also emphasized that solar technology represents a critical pillar for Thailand’s sustainable and resilient energy future, and this knowledge-sharing will pave the way for new opportunities for future collaboration.
