The National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), hosted the 2nd International Conference on Measurement Sciences and Applications (IMSA 2026) from 26–28 August 2026 at Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai, Bangkok, Thailand.
Held under the theme “Measurements for Efficiency, Innovation and Sustainability,” IMSA 2026 provided an international platform for exchanging knowledge and advancing collaboration in measurement science and technology. The conference brought together academics, researchers, industry representatives, policymakers, and experts from Thailand and around the world to explore how measurement science can support technological advancement, industrial development, and sustainable growth.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, highlighted the fundamental role of metrology in strengthening economic infrastructure. He emphasized that accuracy and reliable measurement are no longer matters of academic importance alone but are essential foundations for competitiveness, value creation, and international confidence. Countries with strong measurement systems are better positioned to build resilient industrial and innovation ecosystems.
In line with the Ministry’s 2026 action plan to strengthen scientific infrastructure, increase investment in research and development, and promote frontier technologies, metrology plays a critical role in supporting emerging industries, including electric vehicles, clean energy, medical technologies, and digital systems. Reliable measurement provides the foundation for transforming scientific knowledge into trusted technologies and enabling innovations to become competitive products and services in the global market.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of NIMT, stated that IMSA 2026 was organized to highlight the role of metrology as a foundation for accuracy, confidence, quality, and sustainable development in accordance with international standards.
The conference focused on six key areas of future technologies and applications: advanced materials; energy and the energy transition; communications and sensor technologies, including conventional and quantum systems; natural disaster and environmental management; food and health; and artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.
“IMSA 2026 has received strong support from leading national metrology institutes and international organizations, including experts from the United States, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom, as well as specialists from industry and research institutions. Their participation has created an important platform for connecting academia, industry, and policymakers to exchange knowledge and develop tangible outcomes for Thailand and the global community,” said Pol. Lt. Gen. Pornchai.
IMSA 2026 marked an important step in strengthening Thailand’s role in the international measurement science community. Beyond serving as a platform for academic exchange, the conference fostered new opportunities for international cooperation, technology development, and industrial advancement. Through collaboration among leading metrology institutes, academia, industry, and research organizations, IMSA 2026 contributed to building a stronger innovation ecosystem and advancing the future of measurement science and technology toward a more efficient, innovative, and sustainable society.
