NIMT Presents Research on Josephson Voltage Standards at CPEM 2026 in Spain

The National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT) participated in the Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements (CPEM 2026), held in Madrid, Spain, from 4–13 September 2026, with Dr. Yaowaret Pimsut, Electrical Metrology Department, representing NIMT.

During the conference, Dr. Yaowaret presented a research poster entitled “The Transition from Conventional to Programmable Josephson Voltage Standards at NIMT.” The presentation highlighted NIMT’s development and transition from the conventional Josephson Voltage Standard (CJVS) to the Programmable Josephson Voltage Standard (PJVS), including the application of PJVS in both DC and AC voltage measurements.

Particular attention was given to the application of the AC Quantum Voltmeter (AC QVM) together with differential sampling and subsampling techniques. This approach supports high-accuracy AC voltage measurements and enables measurement results to be directly linked to the SI units through quantum standards. During the poster session, Dr. Yaowaret exchanged technical knowledge and experience with researchers and experts from leading national metrology institutes and metrology organizations, including NIST, NRC Canada, NIM China, PTB, and BIPM.

The conference also provided an opportunity for NIMT to follow recent developments in quantum electrical metrology, particularly in PJVS, JAWS, and AC QVM technologies. In addition, Dr. Yaowaret participated in a joint research presentation by Dr. Ralf Behr of PTB on “Towards linking thermal converter AC-DC transfer difference to the SI via the AC quantum voltmeter,” which included collaborative research with NIMT.

Following the conference, Dr. Yaowaret visited the Centro Español de Metrología (CEM), Spain’s national metrology institute, on 11 September 2026. The visit included laboratory tours covering Quantum Resistance, Quantum Frequency, Quantum Voltage, Magnetism, Temperature and EV Charging Stations, Length, and Mass. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience on measurement standards, laboratory systems, and metrology services with CEM experts.

The participation in CPEM 2026 contributed to strengthening NIMT’s international visibility in quantum voltage metrology, enhancing technical knowledge, and fostering collaboration with leading national metrology institutes. The knowledge gained will support the continued development of NIMT’s PJVS and AC QVM capabilities, as well as future international measurement comparisons and the enhancement of the Institute’s measurement capabilities.
