Mrs. Surat Leeudomwong, Head of the Acoustics and Vibration Group, Mechanical Metrology Department, National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), was invited to serve as a Peer Reviewer in the field of Acoustics at the National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM) from 13–16 September 2026, with the peer review conducted on 14–15 September 2026.
The peer review focused on the assessment of NMIM’s Acoustics Laboratory, covering key measurement capabilities, including:
– Pressure sensitivity level for LS microphones
– Pressure sensitivity level for WS microphones
– Sound pressure level for pistonphones, sound calibrators, and multi-frequency sound calibrators
– Free-field response level of sound level meters
During the peer review, Mrs. Surat provided technical recommendations to support the improvement of the laboratory’s measurement and quality management practices. The recommendations included enhancing the use of electronic records for environmental conditions, intermediate checks, and validity of results, as well as considering a system-level approach to intermediate checks to improve efficiency and provide a more comprehensive assessment of the measurement system.
The assignment provided an important opportunity to strengthen professional connections and cooperation between NIMT and NMIM, while allowing NIMT to share its expertise and gain valuable experience in conducting peer reviews at an overseas national metrology institute. It also contributed to mutual learning and a better understanding of technical challenges in acoustics metrology.
Through international peer review activities such as this, NIMT continues to contribute its technical expertise to the global metrology community and strengthen international cooperation in support of reliable and internationally recognized measurement standards.
