Dr. Sornkrit Marbumrung and Ms. Ponhatai Kankaew from NIMT attended a technical training program on the evaluation of organic purity using quantitative Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (qNMR) techniques at the National Metrology Institute of Japan. The training focused on quantitative analysis of organic compounds in matrices using advanced qNMR methods, including the Relative Molar Sensitivity (RMS) technique.
Dr. Sornkrit Marbumrung participated in the program during 20–24 April 2026, while Ms. Ponhatai Kankaew attended during 20 April–1 May 2026.
Participation in this training program was highly important and essential for NIMT. The knowledge and expertise gained from the training will strengthen NIMT capability in establishing new measurement standards and producing certified reference materials (CRMs) for pure substances, including active compounds in herbal products and controlled substances such as narcotics. This capability will help reduce Thailand’s dependence on expensive imported reference standards and reference materials.
Furthermore, the training provided in-depth knowledge on the application of qNMR techniques for complex samples, as well as quantitative analysis of pure compounds and active herbal ingredients. The acquired expertise will support Thailand’s participation in Interlaboratory Comparisons (ILC) and Key Comparisons, contributing to the verification of the accuracy and equivalence of measurement results from Thai laboratories using qNMR techniques under the framework of the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement.
