ASEAN Expert Group on Metrology (EGM) Conducts Bi-Monthly Training Session on CMM Verification

The ASEAN Expert Group on Metrology (EGM) successfully conducted its Bi-Monthly Training Session on 29 April 2026, held online as a full-day session. The training brought together participants from across ASEAN to strengthen technical knowledge and enhance regional collaboration in dimensional metrology.

The session was officially opened by Mr. Kong Pagnarith of the National Metrology Center (NMC), Cambodia, as EGM Vice Chair. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building and knowledge sharing among ASEAN National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) to ensure measurement reliability and international recognition.

The training was delivered by Dr. Wiroj Sudatham, Senior Metrologist from NIMT.  His lecture focused on “Acceptance and Reverification Tests for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM),” providing both fundamental concepts and practical insights relevant to laboratory applications.

Key topics covered during the training included:

– Introduction to Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)

– CMM error components and sources of uncertainty

– Measurement strategies for CMM applications

– Differences between CMM calibration and verification

– Evaluation of CMM test uncertainty

– Decision rules for determining conformity or nonconformity with specifications

The session provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of CMM performance evaluation, which is essential for ensuring measurement accuracy and compliance with international standards. It also offered a valuable platform for discussion and exchange of experiences among experts in the region.

This activity reflects EGM’s ongoing commitment to enhancing technical competence and supporting the harmonization of metrology practices across ASEAN.
