NIMT Director Participates as Leader of the Thai Delegation at the 41st APMP General Assembly and Related Activities in Incheon, Republic of Korea

Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), participated as the leader of the Thai delegation at the 41st Asia-Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) General Assembly and Related Activities, from 26 to 28 November 2025 in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The annual event convened leaders and experts from National Metrology Institutes (NMIs), regional metrology organizations, and global partners to discuss key developments and future directions in the international measurement system.

On 26 November 2025, Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai attended the APMP Symposium, organized under the theme “The Future of Metrology and the Challenges for NMIs: Innovation and Sustainability.” The symposium gathered distinguished speakers from the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), APMP, and NMIs worldwide to explore the evolving landscape of metrology, including the redefinition of the International System of Units (SI), the emergence of quantum technologies, and the growing need for sustainability-focused measurement solutions. The discussions provided valuable perspectives to support NIMT’s strategic development and alignment with global metrology trends.

Later on the same day, the NIMT Director took part in the 16th APMP NMI Directors’ Workshop, focused on “Semiconductor Metrology – Shaping Modern Technology and Supporting APMP’s Collaborative Roadmap.” The workshop emphasized the critical importance of measurement science in semiconductor development, covering topics such as advanced technology nodes, 3D packaging, international traceability, and regional capacity building. Participants also exchanged views on the establishment of the APMP Semiconductor Metrology Focus Group, reflecting strong regional interest in strengthening this strategically important field.

From 27 to 28 November 2025, Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai participated in the 41st APMP General Assembly, where member economies reviewed APMP’s progress, discussed strategic and financial matters, and approved work programmes for the upcoming year.

A significant highlight of Thailand’s participation was NIMT’s presentation of its proposal to host the APMP Mid-Year Meetings 2028. The proposal demonstrates Thailand’s readiness to support APMP’s collaborative activities and its commitment to strengthening regional metrology cooperation. Hosting the meetings would provide an opportunity for Thailand to showcase NIMT’s capabilities, expand technical cooperation, and welcome experts from across the Asia–Pacific region.

The participation of Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune underscores NIMT’s continued commitment to advancing Thailand’s measurement infrastructure and contributing to regional and global metrology efforts. Insights gained from the symposium, workshop, and General Assembly will support NIMT’s mission to enhance national capabilities, promote innovation, and foster international collaboration in key emerging areas such as semiconductor metrology, quantum technologies, and sustainable development.
