Dr. Jariya Buajarern, Metrology Expert, and Dr. Sivinee Sawatdiaree, RDI Manager, from NIMT, served as advisors for an advisory programme conducted at the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology (UzNIM) during 19–23 January 2026. The programme focused on practical examples drawn from NIMT’s institutional experience in management, policy formulation, and quality systems, with the aim of strengthening strategic capacity and long-term sustainability of UzNIM.
The five-day advisory programme covered a wide range of interconnected topics, including strategic dialogue on the transition from maintaining CMCs to long-term NMI development, integration of management systems, digital transformation of quality and operational processes, technical sustainability, emerging fields such as quantum metrology, and the role of research, development and innovation (RDI) in national metrology institutes. Interactive sessions, peer exchanges, laboratory visits, and practical demonstrations were used to facilitate in-depth discussion and mutual learning between NIMT and UzNIM experts.
The programme also included an institutional overview of UzNIM, highlighting its role as the national metrology institute of Uzbekistan and its active engagement with international metrology networks. Based on discussions and observations, NIMT provided strategic recommendations covering R&D roadmapping, quantum and digital metrology as future infrastructure, digital transformation as a management decision-support tool, and the evolution of quality management systems from a compliance-based approach to a strategic instrument for organizational development.
In addition, potential areas for future cooperation between UzNIM and NIMT were identified, including joint strategic workshops, exchange of experts and early-career researchers, pilot projects in digital and quantum metrology, and co-development of management and digital tools. The advisory programme concluded with a synthesis of key takeaways and a discussion on next steps and a medium- to long-term collaboration roadmap.
This activity was conducted under the PTB project “Supporting the Reform of the National Quality Infrastructure in Uzbekistan,” implemented by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany. The advisory programme contributed to strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing the strategic use of management and quality systems, and promoting sustainable, future-oriented development of UzNIM, while reaffirming NIMT’s commitment to international cooperation and the sharing of institutional expertise.
