The National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT), led by its Director, Pol. Lt. Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, was honored to welcome Prof. Dr. Cornelia Denz, President of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), together with Mr. Uwe Miesner, Head of Section Asia, on the occasion of their official visit to Thailand during 19–20 February 2026.
The visit aimed to reinforce bilateral cooperation and engage in high-level strategic discussions on advancing Thailand’s national metrology system, while further strengthening Thailand–Germany collaboration in response to the evolving global landscape.
For more than two decades, cooperation between NIMT and PTB has been close and continuous. PTB has played a pivotal role in laying the foundation of Thailand’s national metrology system, even prior to the official establishment of NIMT. The partnership has encompassed human resource development, knowledge and technology transfer, the development of national measurement standards, and enhancement of laboratory capabilities in accordance with international best practices.
These collaborative efforts have served as a key driving force in strengthening Thailand’s National Quality Infrastructure (NQI), thereby supporting industrial competitiveness, international trade and exports, consumer protection, and public safety.
During the visit, both sides exchanged views on the future direction of metrology development amid global challenges, including emerging technologies, energy transition, the digital economy, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These transformations are generating increasingly complex and high-precision measurement requirements across multiple sectors.
Both parties agreed to expand cooperation into strategic priority areas such as clean energy, climate change, advanced technologies, and support for Thailand’s targeted industries. They also reaffirmed their shared commitment to elevating Thailand’s role as a regional hub for metrology cooperation within ASEAN and the Asia–Pacific region.
