The 2nd Designated Institutes Meeting

Assistant Director Dr.Charun Yafa was a chairperson for The 2nd Designated Institutes meeting (DIs Meeting). There were 3 institutes attended the meeting consisting of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) and Department of Medical Sciences (Bureau of Radiation and Medical Devices, and Bureau of Quality and Safety and Food).

Dr.Charun talked about the metrology trends that are challenging to DIs today and gave his policy to continue cooperation among the DIs. Chairperson suggested to DIs that should apply its application for becoming a APMP member (Asia Pacific Metrology Programme) to receive any updates from other member in the Asia-Pacific region.

This meeting, International Relations Officers (IRO) Dr.Natthaphon Jarat and Ms.Thanakporn Nontachart were attended as the meeting secretariat as well as described how to submit APMP member application and writing an APMP report.The meeting was held online from Phadung Matra building, NIMT Pathum Thani province on 9 February 2022.

Defence Science and Technology Department visits NIMT for cooperation

Assistant Director Dr.Charun Yafa welcomed Director of the Defence Science and Technology Department (DSTD) of the Ministry of Defence Maj.Gen.Wanchai Getewitaya and his entourage to NIMT for the metrology cooperation meeting between two organizations.

DSTD is the division of military standards. Its duties are to advise, plan, facilitate, coordinate, lead and conduct matters pertaining to defence science and technology in accordance with the policies and directives of the Ministry of Defence. Therefore, the visitors walked for laboratory tour and dropped in RF and Microwave Laboratory and another one; time and frequency laboratory to visit those labs and exchange knowledge. The meeting was held at Phadung Matra building, NIMT Pathum Thani on 8 February 2022.

Training on “Calibration of Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments Following EURAMET Calibration Guide No. 18” Online

Professional level metrologists Mrs.Rungsiya Sukhon and Mr.Monchai Mit-Aree taught “Calibration of Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments Following EURAMET Calibration Guide No. 18” via Zoom program to participants from public and private sectors. The training was held online from the 3floor meeting room, the building of developing measurement standards to support the rail system development, NIMT, Pathum Thani province between 7-8 February 2022.

Dimensional Metrology Club for the first meeting

Dimensional Metrology Department organized the 1st meeting of this year online on 28 January 2022. A chairperson of the meeting was Head of the department Dr.Jariya Buajarern kindly addressed her opening speech and later her staff metrologists introduced the newest facilitating building of NIMT, the building of developing measurement standards to support the rail system development where the dimensional metrology tools have been settled for calibration service and related tasks.

Training on “Internal Quality Audit” online

Mr.Warun Laopornpichayanuwat, Head of Mechanical Metrology Department and Ms.Panatda Panpech, Metrologist of Primary Thermometry Standard Group taught General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories, ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (E) on Internal Quality Audit online training program. It used Zoom meeting from NIMT Pathum Thani province between 7 – 8 February 2022.

NIMT presents “METROLOGY FOR INDUSTRY” to the Council of RMUT President Committee Meeting

Metrology is the key potential to drive industries and measure the standards of industrial economic growth scale in Thailand. NIMT Director Mrs.Ajchara Charoensook realizes the importance of metrology should widen to the university. The metrology is specific knowledge in measurement science that hidden in all industries. Without the measurement of science, there is not any tools to prove the accuracy of the things.

Therefore, NIMT designs a short training course- Metrology for Industry, for Rajamangala University of Technology (RMUT) staff and students. They can prepare themselves for metrology knowledge prior to graduate, apply for their jobs and use for their career. On this occasion, NIMT Director discussed cooperation among the nine campuses of the Rajamangala University of Technology (RMUT) and received good feedbacks. The meeting was held on 31 January 2022 at the Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin (RMUTR).

NIMT staff gets the 3rd jab for COVID vaccine at Khlong Luang hospital

In order to prevent the COVID-19 infection rate to NIMT staff members, NIMT Human Resource Department cares our staff’s health and well-being. NIMT has been coordinated by Khlong Luang hospital to vaccinate the third jab for the COVID-19 on Friday 28th January 2022 at Khlong Luang hospital, Pathum Thani province.

Infrared Thermometer Calibration Training

NIMT Business Development Group organized a training on Infrared Thermometer Calibration for Infrared Thermometer, Infrared Calibrator or Blackbody Furnace. The training participants came from the public and private sectors. The training trainers were Dr. Athikom Manoi, Head of Primary Thermometry Standard Group as a main trainer and Mr. Phichet Wongnut, Thermometry and Optical Metrologist Senior Level as an assistant trainer.

The participants have been trained about measuring radiation temperature and understood the principle of Infrared thermometer. Moreover, the participants would be able to estimate the value of uncertainty, issue and interpret the calibration certificate. The training was held at the 3floor meeting room, the building of developing measurement standards to support the rail system development, NIMT, Pathum Thani province between 26 – 27 January 2022.

NIMT advises PPK on supporting the establishment of medical device calibration laboratory

NIMT Director Mrs. Ajchara Charoensook, along with Deputy Director Mr. Anusorn Tonmuenwai, Mechanical Expert Mr. Tassanai Sanponpute, and Head of Business Development Group Dr.-Ing. Narudom Noulkhow met with Prapokklao Hospital Director Dr.Theeraphong Tunakh, M.D., and the hospital executive team to discuss on supporting metrological academic data and personnel to establish the medical device calibration laboratory within the hospital at Prapokklao Hospital (PPK), Chanthaburi province on 25 January 2022.

NIMT team took a site-visit to assess readiness to participate in the incubation and certification programs in medical metrology academic in accordance with the international standard ISO/IEC 17025. The purposes of establishment are creating the medical device calibration laboratory network and building metrological traceability. NIMT highly devote and support the hospital to raising the standards of the hospital laboratory nationwide.

NIMT attends The 2nd LMC Coordinating Working Group Meeting (Zoom meeting)

On 25 January 2022, Assistant Director Dr.Charun Yafa, together with International Relations Officers, Dr.Natthaphon Jarat and Miss Thanakporn Nontachart attended the 2nd Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Coordinating Working Group Meeting (LMC-CWG) via  Zoom application. There were 6 representatives of National Institute of Metrology (NIMs) and related agencies  from Mekong sub-regional countries joined the meeting – National Metrology Center of Cambodia (NMC), National Institute of Metrology of China (NIM), The Department of Standardization and Metrology of Laos PDR. (DoSM),  The Department of Research and Innovation of Myanmar (DRI),  Vietnam Metrology Institute (VMI) and National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) (NIMT).

Assistant Director Dr.Charun Yafa, together with International Relations Officers, Dr.Natthaphon Jarat and Miss Thanakporn Nontachart took a zoom group photo with all participants.

This meeting focuses on actions defined in the minutes of 1st LMC CWG meeting and identifying priorities for implementing LMC in 2022, including Proposal for Establishing the LMC Working Mechanism, priorities for technical training, especially on medical metrology as a priority area, and Initiative on Improving Metrological Traceability within Lancang – Mekong Region. The meeting was successful and well-participated by each countries. Next meeting will be summarized and presented survey-needed courses that each countries have raised urgently. This working group becomes the greatest metrological cooperation within the sub-region supported by NIM China.
