NIMT strengthens collaboration with KRISS, KAIST and Dukin Co., Ltd.

Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of NIMT and staffs, made an official visit to the Republic of Korea during 11-15 March 2024 to discuss and strengthen collaboration in metrology with the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST), and Dukin Co., Ltd. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the cooperation in metrology, collaborative research, knowledge transfer and experience sharing, as they have been considered the world-leading organizations and model institutes for science, technology and innovation. This visit also aimed to raise an awareness of the benefits of using metrology that contributes significantly to the development in Thailand as a whole.

 

NIMT welcomes Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) to visit dimensional laboratories

On 18 March 2024 , NIMT led by Mr. Samana Piengbangyang, Acting Head of Dimensional Metrology Department, together with group leaders and staffs welcomed Dr. Panart Khajornrungruang, lecturer from Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) and his students, Dr. Aran Blattler, lecturer from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) to visit NIMT’s  laboratories. The purpose of this visit was to discuss the possibility to conduct joint research in the fields of laser interferometer and nano metrology. It was held at Phadung Matra building and Rail System Developing building, Pathumthani province.

NIMT conducts the expert consultancy for the PTB Cooperation Project (19-20 February 2024)

Dr. Charun Yafa, Assistant Director of NIMT, was invited to conduct the expert consultancy in the context of collaboration between the National Institute of Metrology (Thailand) and the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany, for the PTB Cooperation Project “Strengthening Quality Infrastructure Services for Environmental and Climate Monitoring, Indonesia.” There were two missions to complete this consultancy. The first mission was to make the site visits to PT providers: PSIKHL in Serpong and ITB Lab in Bogor, on 6-7 February 2024. The second one was to visit SNSU-BSN in Serpong (the National Measurement Standard –  National Standardization Agency of Indonesia) on 19-20 February 2024.

Technical expert for the reassessment of NMISA’s mass laboratory

Mrs. Rungsiya Sukhon, Senior Professional Metrologist, Mechanical Metrology Department of NIMT, was invited by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) to participate as an international technical expert for the reassessment of the National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA)’s mass laboratory. This activity was part of the peer review held during 12-14 March 2024 in South Africa.

NIMT develops the National Measurement Standards in Photometry

In order to develop the National Measurement Standards in the field of photometry based on the new SI definition, NIMT represented by Dr. Rattana Chuenchom, Senior Professional Metrologist, Light and Color Group, Thermometry and Optical Metrology Department, visited the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany to deliver standard probes and conduct the informal inter-laboratory comparisons of Filter radiometer and Reference photometer with PTB during 24 February 2024 to 10 March 2024.

Executive exchange meeting between NIMT and PTB

Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteerakune, Director of NIMT, together with Dr. Charun Yafa, Assistant Director, Dr. Jariya Buajarern, Head of International Relations Office and heads of department of NIMT, warmly welcome Dr. Harald Bosse, Head of Division 5 Precision Engineering and Dr. René Schödel, Head of Department 5.4 Interferometry on Material Measures, technical experts from the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany. On this occasion, NIMT held the executive exchange meeting in order to hear unique perspectives, strategies, and economic understanding from PTB, the world most successful NMI. Through this exchange of ideas, experiences, and expertise, NIMT hopes to gain skills and best practices to implement within its organization. The meeting was held on 8 March 2024 at Phadung Matra building, Pathumthani province.

 

Peer reviewer in the field of mass measurement

Mrs. Rungsiya Sukhon, Senior Professional Metrologist, Mechanical Metrology Department of NIMT, was invited to visit the National Metrology Laboratory of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (NML-BSTI) to conduct the technical assessment of NML-BSTI’s mass laboratory for the first CMC (Calibration and Measurement Capability). This peer review aimed to support and provide useful information for the future improvement that fulfilled the requirements of CIPM-MRA and the APMP Guidelines. It was held during 3-7 March 2024 in Bangladesh.

NIMT’s quality assessment in the field of dimensional metrology

Pol.Lt.Gen. Pornchai Suteenakune, Director, Mr. Anusorn Tonmueanwai, Deputy Director, along with NIMT quality management team and staffs of dimensional metrology department, joined the ISO/IEC 17025 quality system assessment meeting held on 5 – 7 March 2024. As NIMT proposed the pathway A assessment, NIMT cordially invited Mr. Harald Bosse, Head of PTB Division 5 Precision Engineering and Dr. René Schödel, Head of PTB Department 5.4 Interferometry on Material Measures, technical experts from the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany, to conduct the technical assessment. For the quality assessment, NIMT requested an expert from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), Mr. Komsan Youngjaroon, the Director of Laboratory Group 3. The purpose of this assessment was to strengthen the quality management system and establish international recognition of Thailand’s measurement capabilities.

 

The 8th meeting of Designated Institutes of Thailand

On 5 March 2024, NIMT hosted the 8th hybrid meeting of Designated Institutes of Thailand at Pathumthani site. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Charun Yafa, Assistant Director of NIMT. It aimed to follow up the progress of activities and assignments from the previous meeting as well as make an effort to develop Thailand’s national metrology system approaching to international recognition.
