Inorganic Analysis Group

About Inorganic Analysis Group

Under the organization structure of the Chemical Metrology and Biometry Department, the inorganic analysis group contains four major sections of measurement activities.

Electrochemical analysis laboratory consist of pH measurement and electrolytic conductivity measurement (EC). For pH, primary and secondary measurement system were established for supported aqueous solution and other matrices such as ethanol and sea water. A measurement method for electrolytic conductivity measurement have been establishing in the laboratory to produce certified reference potassium chloride with various conductivity values and various matrix for example ethanol and environment sample. And other parameters related to electrolytic conductivity are also established such as salinity.

Other three sections are supported inorganic analysis. First section is high purity material, elemental standard solutions were produced by using coulometric titration and potentiometric titration. Moreover, in this section are also prepared other types of certified reference material for example certified reference material for calibration of UV/VIS spectrophotometer. Other two sections involve in inorganic analysis, Trace elemental analysis by using Isotope dilution – mass spectrometry (IDMS) and elemental speciation. Both sections are responsible for determining total amount of inorganic elements and elemental species in matrices of concern such as food, environment and clinical samples by using techniques of higher metrological order.
Besides production and development of certified reference materials, the laboratory also provides calibration services such as pH meter calibration, volumetric glassware calibration, piston pipette calibration and others

For the nation, inorganic analysis group aims at providing traceability of all measurements in the discipline of electrochemical and inorganic analysis. Therefore, the laboratory not only actively participates in the international-laboratory comparison to demonstrate the measurement capability of its own, but also technically offers measuring services, i.e. assigning reference value for PT scheme and for reference material to prospective customers.

To be involved in the dissemination of established measurement capabilities through field calibration and testing laboratories, inorganic analysis group has obliged to produce pure substances and matrices reference material needed in the country. In compliance with the quality system of ISO 17034 and ISO/IEC 17025 to ensure international traceability, certified reference materials, whose values are assigned by the primary method of measurement or validated method, are produced. In addition, the laboratory has offered specialized knowledge of metrology to customer such as training courses and laboratory consultancy. All activities are performed to support and maintain national metrology infrastructure for the measurement of inorganic analysis.
